Most people meet dates through the Gregorian calendar, where months stay in roughly the same season. The Islamic calendar works differently. It is lunar: each month is tied to the Moon, and the calendar does not add a leap month to keep those months fixed to the solar seasons.

A synodic lunar month is about 29.53 days. Twelve of those months make a lunar year of about 354.37 days. A tropical solar year is about 365.24 days. The difference is roughly 10.88 days, so a lunar month such as Ramadan appears about eleven days earlier in the Gregorian seasonal year after each solar year.
