Observer Notes

Check cloud, moonrise, local light pollution, horizon access and a current star chart before leaving. Pack red light, warm layer and a battery bank.

Assumptions

Moonlight is estimated from Astronomy Engine lunar elongation at the selected civil clock time and fixed UTC offset. Target themes are broad seasonal prompts for the selected hemisphere.

Limits

This planner does not calculate moonrise, moonset, twilight, cloud, smoke, local horizon, object altitude or site safety. Verify current local astronomy and weather sources before travelling.

Method

The worksheet turns a month into practical observing nights

The planner combines civil dates, a fixed local observing time, Astronomy Engine lunar elongation and seasonal hemisphere target themes. It highlights darker nights and keeps the calculation boundary visible so the printout works as a planning sheet, not an official almanac.

Night basis

Darkness quality is estimated from engine-backed lunar phase age at the selected evening time. The page does not calculate live cloud, light pollution, horizon blocks, object altitude or astronomical twilight.

Print path

The print button opens browser print. The print stylesheet keeps the month grid, best-night cards, notes, assumptions, limits and source reminders.

Limits

This is an educational observing planner, not a telescope pointing service, weather forecast, safety plan, navigation tool or official observatory calendar.

Source Notes

Night-sky planning needs local verification before travel or publication

CalculationTime uses browser date arithmetic, Astronomy Engine lunar elongation and broad seasonal sky themes. Before treating a night as a confirmed observing opportunity, check a current local ephemeris, weather forecast, moonrise/moonset table, twilight time, site access rule and safety conditions.
