Use this planner beside your dark-site notes: lock the date window, target low Moon phases, and confirm local weather before planning travel.

Assumptions

Meteor windows are built from fixed annual peak windows and local civil-date stepping. Results are planning signals, not forecasts: local weather, sky brightness, latitude, and radiant drift can move practical viewing significantly.

Functional checks

1) Change year to validate all range boundaries and peak dates shift correctly. 2) Raise the minimum ZHR to prune low-intensity showers. 3) Filter by month and confirm month cards isolate overlap windows.

4) Use Print to verify the summary, calendar cards, and assumptions remain while controls hide.

Method

Window dates are built from fixed annual reference windows

For each calendar year the tool generates start, peak and end windows from internal meteor-shower constants, then marks month cells that overlap those windows. Peak intensity labels are based on published ZHR bands and are intentionally tagged as planning guidance only.

Print path

The print button opens browser print. Controls and interactive widgets hide while the report, list, month cards and assumptions remain.

Visibility split

Hemisphere controls switch descriptive visibility language only. Observability still varies with latitude, Moon phase, light pollution and weather.

Limits

This page is a planning aid. It does not predict real-time meteor counts and does not replace live observatory weather or sky-quality feeds.

Source Notes

Astronomical and implementation basis

Window baselines and annual peak bands are aligned to open-reference meteor-shower documentation and are represented as planning estimates. Browser JavaScript Date objects run all date stepping in local civil time at local noon to reduce edge-case DST ambiguity.
